By connecting EPA users with curated datasets and promoting service reuse, SEGS aims to enhance information access, reduce data-storage costs, and improve the consistency and quality of data at the US EPA. Developed by the U.S. EPA <a href="https://www.epa.gov/aboutepa/about-office-air-and-radiation-oar" style="color:rgb(0, 121, 193); text-decoration-line:none; font-family:inherit; font-size:12pt;">Office of Air and Radiation</a>, this content item depicts trends in April snowpack in the western United States from 1955 to 2022, measured in terms of snow water equivalent. Blue circles represent increased snowpack; red circles represent a decrease. Data come from nearly 700 permanent measuring stations overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Water and Climate Center and the California Department of Water Resources. These data were supplemented with those published by <a href="https://doi.org/10.1175/BAMS-86-1-39" style="color:rgb(0, 121, 193); text-decoration-line:none; font-family:inherit; font-size:12pt;">Mote and Sharp (2005) </a>and <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41612-018-0012-1.pdf" style="color:rgb(0, 121, 193); text-decoration-line:none; font-family:inherit; font-size:12pt;">Mote et al. (2018)</a>.
