Service Description: On January 29, 2025 at 12:00 PM, the EPA was notified by EPA’s technical assistance contractor (START) of a fire and explosion from the Blue Tide Environmental Bay Town Re-Refinery Facility, 6651 West Bay Road, Baytown, Chambers County, Texas. START observed the fire and explosion while performing work at an adjacent property. The cause of the release is currently unknown. There is a residential area approximately 0.2 miles downwind of the facility. Within a 1-mile radius of the incident location, there is a population of approximately 2,337. The facility is a FRP facility. OSC Patel and EPA’s technical assistance contractor (START) were activated to investigate whether there was a release, and address whether there were any impacts to the adjacent site. There are no other State or Federal Agencies responding to the incident at this time.
