The National Estuary Program (NEP) is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency place-based program to protect and restore the water quality and ecological integrity of estuaries of national significance. Currently, 28 estuaries located along the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts and in Puerto Rico are designated as estuaries of national significance. For more information about the National Estuary Program, visit https://epa.gov/nep.
This hosted feature layer depicts locations of National Estuary Program projects from 2010 to the most recently available year, symbolized by activity (Maintenance, Protection, or Restoration), with or without associated project photos. Data in this layer are provided by the NEPs. This layer is integrated into the NEPmap Dashboard, which provides users with map visualization of NEP projects along with several other layers to provide geographic context.
