Service Description: On August 22, 2025 at 1:13 PM, the EPA was notified by the Louisiana State Police (LSP) of an explosion and fire from above ground storage tanks at the Smitty’s Supply Inc. Facility in Roseland, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. According to the LSP, the cause of the explosion is currently unknown. There are several residential properties near the facility, and an evacuation order within a 1-mile radius of the facility was activated.
An EPA On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) and EPA’s technical assistance contractor (START) were activated to respond to the incident. They are conducting community air monitoring and documenting the Smitty’s Supply Inc. Facility’s response actions. The EPA's ASPECT aircraft was activated to perform wide area air monitoring. EPA is actively coordinating with Louisiana state and local officials as more information regarding the fire becomes available.
