Description: This layer contains polygon features that represent communities with residential organics collection programs in the United States. This layer contains features that represent communities with residential curbside food waste collection programs in the United States. EPA used US Census Bureau data to define the administrative boundaries of each community. Communities were identified based on a 2017 Biocycle survey, supplemented with additional EPA research and feedback from states and communities, as documented in EPA’s 2020 publication: Technical Methodology for the EPA Excess Food Opportunities Map. The dataset contains 275 communities.
