Description: Shared Enterprise Geodata and Services (SEGS) provides an EPA-curated collection of recommended geodata assets that are nationally relevant and support the Agency’s mission to protect human health and the environment. By connecting EPA users with curated datasets and promoting service reuse, SEGS aims to enhance information access, reduce data-storage costs, and improve the consistency and quality of data at the US EPA.This SEGS content item depicts the count of years with at least one wildfire, for all Block Groups in the continental U.S. These values were summarized for historical (1994-2013) time period and projected time periods (2040-2059, 2080-2099) using RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, developed by RTI and EPA in 2024. These data were downloaded on 07/05/2024 from the Oregon State University Data Repository and processed by RTI to calculate count of years with at least one wildfire over 20 years for each Block Group. The wildfire data are produced by EPA’s CIRA II model and is based on LOCA1 data. EPA’s LASSO tool was used to look across models, and CanESM2 was selected as the model that projects the highest median end of century (2100) temperature and precipitation conditions which are key drivers for wildfires across all EPA Regions. This model was also selected to be consistent from previous case studies conducted (Sinha et al, 2024 a and b). Although data for GFDL-CM4 was used for all other indicators, wildfire data was unavailable for this model.
