Description: This dataset was compiled for a group project at UWF about mountain top removal mining. This work was completed by group 4. The contributing group members are Rachel Greller, David Schroeder, and William Lee. The data displays polygons representing MTR sites, and line features representing streams. Tools in both ArcMap and Erdas Imagine have been used to identify the MTR sites.
These sights were recognized as containing pixels with values consistent with those found at mountain top removal sites. These areas also meet certain criteria such as being at least 40 acres, being 50 meters from roads and rivers, being at least 400 meters from major rivers and highways, and these areas intersect known mountain ridges. There is a total of 96,831 acres of MTR sites, and this data has been found to be 91% accurate.
