Description: This project was to examine the study area for my group which was that of Kentucky and Ohio, and to determine the areas of the states used for Mountain Top Removal. The group of four people that I was a part of split up and we each took an image and tried to determine what was and was not MTR aspects of our image. This was done by first removing roads, highways, streams, and rivers within a certain distance of our study area. I then used photo interpretation and remote sensing skills to try and determine what was an area of MTR versus what wasn't (such as shadows, water, roads, soil). After completing this, I sent my study area to the group leader (Rachel) for an analysis check and to be compiled with all of the other group data. This was a really enjoyable exercise. While I was not particularly excited about working in a group at first, I was lucky to get a really good group, and we knocked out project out of the park with 97% accuracy!
