Description: Analysis and calculation of acreage within Group 6's study area in the Central Appalachians that has been effected by the coal mining practice of Mountain Top Removal (MTR). It shows areas: 1) no smaller then 40 acres, 2) outside of a 50 meter buffer around roads and rivers, and 3) outside of a 400 meter buffer around major rivers and highways. Analysis uses Group 6's (Path 18, Row 35) 2010 Landsat imagery. Total acreage consumed by MTR was found to be 12,254 acres. The accuracy of the analysis was determined to be 86.7%. Comparison to 2005 Landsat imagery shows that the area effected by MTR increased by 7,317 acres.
