Description: This map shows areas within the Appalachian Mountains that were affected by Mountain Top Removal in 2010. My contribution to this assignment was construction the data for the region p19r34, noerth-west portion of the map. This map highlights regions of the Appalachian Mountains that were used to extract coal by the techinque of mountain top removal.
Mountain Top Removal is an effective technique used by the Minning industry to extract coal from the coal enriched mountains of the Appalachians. Even though this is a productive techbique, it has dramatic effects on the surrounding environments. MTR destroys habitats, pollutes the air, and destroys near by water systems. The amount of damage constructed from MTRs can take hundreds of thousands of year to replinish itsself.
