Description: This project entails compiling relevant data that was used to analyze the apparent increase or decrease of Mountaintop Removal coal mining process and its potential for pollution of downstream rivers and lands. Regional Dem’s and landsat imagery was some specific data that allowed us to complete the analysis. We used both Erdas Imagine and ArcMap to execute the analysis.
This type of analysis is highly successful at documenting the results of the MTR coal mining process. As with other types of analysis, this type of science is highly dependent on accurate input data to produce accurate results. As Coal Mining will be a viable source of energy for decades to come, it is necessary to compile data to hold the industry accountable for any violations of government regulations. The goal being to make the use of coal as clean as is possible.
