Description: This study was conducted in the Appalachian Mountains to study the environment and ecosystem, evaluate the effects of coal mining in the community, and to find a solution to regulate the impacts in the local environment. The study was conducted in a region of the United States across the span of 5 states (Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, and part of Ohio. The study was conducted using LiDAR data, Land Satellite scenes, and DEMs. Mountain Top Removal is conducted by industrial companies to supply coal and other resources for power and other industrial uses. The ecosystem is disturbed by the mining of coal. Mining the mountains by mountain removal is very damaging to the environment. The scientists used raster images, LiDAR data, hydrology, anthropology, and sample testing.
