Description: Polygon feature dataset created by using a raster image of the Appalachain Mountians to determind the amount of mountian top removed up to the year 2010. ERDAS Imagine was used to classify 50 different types of LULC features and then they were reassigned a value of one for mountain top removal and no data for non MTR. The image was saved and the reclassified using ArcGIS. After reclassification the area was cliped to the study and a select by attributes was used in conjunction with the ridges, to stay within the mountian area. Then the area was assigned and converted from raster to polygon feature. After conversion area was erased to include, major roads, streets rivers and streams, due to thier spetral confusion of MTR area. After this was done all areas the features were broken down into separate polygon features instead of multiple, once that was done another selection by locations was done to isolate areas greater than 40 acres and those features were saved as a new data layer. This polygon layer is a compound layer of three of the four sections, completed by group one. After all layers were received they were checked for accuracy then they were combined by using the merge tool, then disolved using the disolve tool and broken from single to multiple features using the multipart to single part tool. After this I added a new field for acres and got the total acrage to be 139,336 acres of MTR. Our accuracy is 82% overall.
