Service Description: Description: The FHWA approved Functional Classification System. Use: For querying and analysis of data (e.g., transportation performance management (TPM) metrics, Federal-aid project information, etc.) by functional system. Guidance: All Public roads including ramps located within grade-separated interchanges as identified in 23 U.S.C 101.a(27). Ramps take on the functional system of the lowest number system they service. HPMS item: 1 MIRE item: 19 LRS: Inventory and Non-Inventory directions including ramps. This feature also contains Facility Type 7 "Planned/Unbuilt" roads. Extent: HPMS: Full extent on all public roads, ramps included.This feature also contains Facility Type 7 "Planned/Unbuilt" roads. HPMS calculation: homogenous segments. MIRE: FDE: Full extent on all public roads, ramps included.

Updated: This is the current up to date FHWA approved Functional System. The functional system is reviewed as a whole several years after the decennial census is completed. Interim updates may be done on individual routes with approval of FHWA.

Update Procedures: When new routes are added, the NMDOT Roadway Inventory Program populates this event with Functional System 7 "Local." Other changes are entered by the NMDOT Planning Division's Roadway Inventory Program as communicated by the NMDOT Planning Division Govt to Govt Bureau including, but not limited to, the decennial census update referenced above.
