500_Year_Floodplain (FeatureServer)

View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: Flood zones are defined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to identify varying levels of flood risk and inform the Flood Insurance Rate Map. Floods are the second-most common natural disaster, and they often occur quickly in low-lying areas after heavy rains. The 500-year floodplain is the area that has a 0.2-percent annual chance of flooding and is also referred to as the moderate flood hazard area. These are between the limits of the 1-percent-annual-chance (base flood) and the 0.2-percent-annual-chance.
