Service Description: Specific areas that contain the physical or biological features that are essential to the conservation of endangered and threatened species and that may need special management or protection. Critical habitat features include space for individual and population growth, shelter, food, water, sites for breeding, and more. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is required to consider whether there are areas that contain essential features for conservation of threatened or endangered species. Critical habitat designations affect Federal agency actions or federally funded or permitted activities.
