Service Description: Areas where liquefaction may occur during a strong earthquake. Liquefaction takes place when loosely packed, water-logged sediments at or near the ground surface lose their strength in response to strong ground shaking. Liquefaction occurring beneath buildings and other structures can cause major damage during earthquakes. Developers of properties within this zone may be required to investigate the potential hazard and mitigate its threat during the local permitting process.
