Service Description: Light pollution is the amount of human created, artificial light in the night environment. Light pollution alters natural conditions and can create problems for some wildlife. One way of measuring the amount of light pollution is with the Bortle scale, which measures night sky brightness and the interference of ambient light with night sky visibility. The Bortle scale is split into 9 classes. Class 1 is “Excellent dark-sky,” areas with no light pollution and high visibility of the constellations in the night sky. Class 9, “Inner-city sky,” has the highest light pollution and lowest visibility of the night sky.
