Service Description: The Mojave Desert Ecoregional Assessment characterizes the distribution of conservation values across the Mojave Desert Ecoregion, one of the last great wilderness areas in the United States with extraordinarily rich biological diversity. The Assessment identifies conservation targets, characterizes land-use impacts, and uses Marxan to map conservation value of lands to meet the conservation goals. Ecologically Core lands are of the highest conservation value, largely undistributed and unfragmented, and support the conservation targets (species, ecological systems, springs and seeps) selected for this analysis. The full protection of Ecologically Core lands is critical for long-term conservation of biodiversity in the Mojave Desert.
