Description: This map layer contains all Class II injection well sites managed by the California Division of Oil, Gas and geothermal Resources' Underground Injection Control (UIC) program. The data comes from the California DOGGR well site database. Well types include: Water Disposal Wells - Used to dispose of oil and gas wastewaters (formation materials/brines and other produced waters) by injecting them deep underground. Gas Storage Wells - Used to store natural gas resources in sealed formations with limited permissivity, so as to be removed and processed at a later date. Gas Disposal Wells - Used to dispose of natural gas hydrocarbon waste which may accompany oil extraction. The waste gases are injected deep underground for disposal. Steam Flood Wells - Used as a stimulation technique, pressurized steam is injected into an oil field to enhance recovery. Pressure Maintenance Wells - Used to inject air/gas for pressure maintenance for safety. Air Injection Wells - Used to inject air/gas into an oil formation to enhance recovery. Water Flood Wells - Similar to steam flood wells, these wells inject water into a formation as a stimulation technique to enhance recovery.
