This layer provides information detailing actions taken by local governments to regulate or support moratoriums and bans of unconventional well development and stimulation in California, including hydraulic fracturing. In California, the Department of Conservation's (DOC) Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) manages the permitting process for mineral extraction and other types of drilling in the state. Two two local jurisdictions also monitor drilling and well stimulation activities; the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the County of Santa Barbara. Additionally, the Los Angeles City Council and the County of Santa Cruz have passed moratoriums.
