Description: This map layer contains all well sites identified as stimulated. The dataset only includes wells that These are not limited to oil and gas production wells (which are the majority) as several other types of wells are hydraulically fractured. These include geothermal wells in Marin County, and Class II wells used for stimulation and disposal of oil and gas wastes. The data comes from three sources, the DOGGR "All Wells" database, the DOGGR SB4 notifications, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, and FracFocus.org. The data-sets were merged and duplicate well sites were removed, based on API number. A total of 4,388 well sites flagged as stimulated. It is likely that there are actually upwards of 15,000 hydraulically fractured wells in California.
