Description: The state of California is home to only several very small coal-fired power plants due to emission restrictions, and therefore the state must generate electricity using other sources of energy. Natural gas-fired power stations account for over half of the electricity generated in the state and provide about one-sixth of the energy used in California. Hydroelectric power typically accounts for close to one-fifth of State electricity generation and California leads the nation in electricity generation from non-hydroelectric renewable energy sources, including geothermal power, wind power, and solar power.
