Description: These facilities are industrial operations that remove impurities, such as water, CO2, and H2S, and separate raw natural gas into various condensates and non-methane hydrocarbons, producing "pipe-line quality" dry natural gas that can be used as fuel by residential, commercial and industrial consumers. The composition of the "raw" natural gas depends entirely on the geology of the gas field. natural gas produced from oil wells is generally classified as associated-dissolved, meaning that the natural gas is associated with or dissolved in crude oil. Natural gas production absent any association with crude oil is classified as “non-associated.” In 2004, 75 percent of U.S. wellhead production of natural gas was non-associated (Natural Gas Processing: The Crucial Link Between Natural Gas Production and Its Transportation to Market by Energy Information Administration, 2006).
