Description: An offshore oil rig platform is a large structure used to extract, process, and store resources extracted from multiple wells located on the floor of bodies of water. This layer identifies all 1,370 oil and gas wells in federal waters off the coast of California that service the many wells sunk in the ocean floor of the Pacific. The 24th platform is Holly, located in California state waters. In 2008, state and federal offshore tracts together made up 16% of the state's oil production, producing 22 million barrels of oil and 21 billion cubic feet of gas per year (as of 2009) (California Department of Conservation: Monthly oil and gas production and injection report, November 2008; Bureau of Ocean Energy management, Pacific regiion facts and figures).
