Description: The Hayward fault runs through the densely populated areas of the East Bay, and is believed by experts to connect with the Rodgers Creek Fault, running underneath San Francisco, and the Calaveras Fault to the south, running next to Los Angeles in the San Pablo Bay. The principal transform boundary between the Pacific and North American tectonic plates is the San Andreas fault, but the Hayward Fault receives a share of the overal motion between the plates.
