Description: Oil and gas wells are developed to extract the fossil fuels from under the ground. In California, well site development is regulated by the Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR). The DOGGR database does not distinguish oil wells from "oil and gas" wells. The status of each well is indicated. New wells are those that have been drilled and developed but are not yet producing or "active".
