Description: Maps published in Fishing in Maryland were georeferenced by eye to a geographic infromation systems database to represent popular fishing spots for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. These data were georeferenced for issues published in 1960, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1978, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2003 and 2004. Fishing spots were identified by bass fishing charter boat guides. Once plotted in a map, some spots were identified as popular for more than one year. Therefore the data were summarized by layering all years of data, creating a buffer of 5 km for each site, and joining buffered sites that intersected or were within 150 m. A fishing spot could vary by a linear distance of approximately 0.30 km among years, likely a result of georeferencing error. The 0.30 km error of a site had a 0.15 km (150 m) radius. Each joined, buffered site was characterized with habitat conditions determined by bathymetry data and aerial photos from 2017. Habitat is likely to have changed at these sites since 1960 and current habitat characteristics may not represent those of previous years.
