Description: This dataset represents the aggregate of all "protected areas" where zoning regulations prohibit the siting of new cannabis dispensaries. The layer was generated using an automated geoprocessing script that buffers specific facility types by legally mandated distances.
The layer is a compilation of buffers around the following sensitive locations:
- Licensed Dispensaries: 1,000 Feet
- Childcare Providers: 500 Feet
- Public & Charter Schools: 500 Feet
- Places of Worship: 500 Feet
- Public Libraries: 500 Feet
- Recreation Centers & Parks: 500 Feet
DNR Lands: 500 Feet
Methodology Features were created using the ArcGIS Pro Buffer analysis tool. Input facilities were buffered by their respective statutory distances. Overlapping buffers within the same category (e.g., two nearby schools) were dissolved to create continuous exclusion zones. Finally, all categories were merged into this single dataset.
