The Planning Area layer was developed for use within the Maryland Growth and Conservation Interactive Map. It was developed using the following layers as provided by Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Sustainable Communities (Sustainable Communities, 2024), RISE Zone (RISE, 2024), and Enterprise Zone (Enterprise, 2024),and as provided by the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), Priority Funding Area (PFA, 2024), Septic Growth Tier (Septic Growth Tier, 2024), Generalized Zoning (Generalized Zoning, 2021), and the Future Growth Areas from the previous version of this model (Planning Area, 2014). Fields include: CO - MdProperty Viewjurisdiction code (four-letter county or Baltimore City code). JURSCODE - MdProperty Viewjurisdiction code (four-letter county or Baltimore City code). Municipality – The name of the municipality as found within the Municipalities layer maintained by the Maryland Department of Planning. Planning Area – The designated geographic targeted area as defined by state and local partners: Targeted Growth and Revitalization (areas identified by DHCD for revitalization or investment); Established Communities (existing population centers with infrastructure that are not identified as targeted growth and revitalization areas); Future Growth Areas (areas identified in the 2014 layer as possible future development centers that have not been converted to established communities or targeted growth areas); Large Lot Development Areas (existing development mostly lacking infrastructure); Rural Resource Areas (broadly defined areas for conservation). Comment – Field for comments from MDP. This layer was most recently updated in March 2024. This layer will be updated annually within the first quarter of the year.
The Priority Preservation Area layer was developed for use within the Maryland Growth and Conservation Interactive Map. It was developed using a combination of layers from the Maryland Department of Planning. The Priority Preservation Areas (PPA, 2023) and locally nominated Priority Preservation Areas were combined by the Maryland Department of Planning Geospatial Data and Analysis Unit to produce this layer. This layer was most recently updated in March 2024. The layer will be updated when model inputs are updated by the Department of Planning.
The Cultural/Historic Area layer was developed for use within the Maryland Growth and Conservation Interactive Map. It was developed using a combination of layers from the Maryland Historic Trust. The National Registry of Historic Places (National Registry of Historic Trust, 2020) and locally nominated Cultural or Historic Areas were combined by the Maryland Department of Planning Geospatial Data and Analysis Unit to produce this layer. This layer was most recently updated in March 2024. The layer will be updated when model inputs are updated by the Maryland Historic Trust.
This is the updated Climate Change Layer from the Growth and Conservation Interactive Map. The WEAT_HurricaneStormSurge_USACE layer was updated in 2016 (see Summary note) and unioned with the DNR data (from 2007).
The Natural Resources Area layer was developed for use within the Maryland Growth and Conservation Interactive Map. It was developed using a combination of layers from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The Wildlife & Rare Species Habitat (BioNet, 2021), Targeted Ecological Areas (TEA, 2011), and Green Infrastructure Hubs and Corridors (GI, 2021), and locally nominated Natural Resources Areas were combined by the Maryland Department of Planning Geospatial Data and Analysis Unit to produce this layer. This layer was most recently updated in March 2024. The layer will be updated when model inputs are updated by the Department of Natural Resources.
