Boundaries of the Sentinel Landscapes within and adjacent to the state of Maryland. Sentinel Landscapes are areas in which natural and working lands are well suited to protect defense facilities from land use that is incompatible with the military’s mission. Sentinel Landscape designation connects private landowners with voluntary state and federal assistance programs that offer loans, educational opportunities, financial and technical assistance, and funding for conservation easements. These lands are anchored by at least one military installation and are high priority lands for USDA, Department of Defense, and the Department of the Interior. Last Updated: 12/2023.
