Description: This feature class consists of points that represent all locations where at-grade railroad tracks intersect a Virginia Department of Transportation maintained roadway. The Linear Referencing System is based on the Virginia Department of Transportation's source system of record for road inventory, the Highway Traffic Record and Inventory System (HTRIS). Geometry and Attribution: All point locations are dynamically generated on Linear Referencing System geometry based on latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates initially obtained through means of Global Positioning System (GPS) field verification and/or heads-up digitizing in the Geographic Information System (GIS). Railroad crossing coordinates are currently maintained in the Roadway Network System by the Traffic Engineering Division. Business attributes for all features are maintained within the Roadway Network System (RNS) which also serves as the source system of record.

Copyright Text: This data was created as part of a joint effort between the Geographic Information System Program and the Roadway Network System Program, both contained under the Information Technology Division of the Virginia Department of Transportation. It also includes street names from the Virginia Geographic Information Network Master Road Centerlines.
