Weighting & Summarizing process:
Default weight for each bus stop set to 1.
Four stops with no routes associated were weighted at 0.
Bus stops serving key routes were assigned a weight of 1.5. 54% of the 10,760 stops met this criteria.
Weights were summed within a block group. For example, a BG with one non-key stop and two key stops would get a weight of 1 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 4.
Divide by square miles and symbolize by quantile such that the low-density BG’s are lighter and high-density are darker. The 155 BG’s with no stops were intentionally included to highlight areas with low transit access.
