The natural community mapping was conducted during the creation of the areas management plan. Properties have been mapped over several years with periodic updates depending on the management plan periodical review schedule. As a result some earlier classifications may differ from more recent updates. Plans that have been updated since 2010 subscribe to the FNAI 2010 Natural Community Descriptions. The attribute field FNAI is the description used at the time the area was mapped. The FNAI General Description field uses the FNAI 2010 descriptions and also is used to generalize the community type to streamline mapping.

Description: Natural communities mapped on District properties. Natural Communities classification are based on Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI). These natural communities are mapped through contract work requested by the district and completed by FNAI. This work is completed for use in SJRWMD Land Management plans. This layer is updated as new properties are mapped by FNAI (2-3 times per year on average).
FNAI is the original creator of the boundaries. SJRWMD funds the addition of mapped communities for inclusion in district Land Management Plans.
