Description: What is the Youth Experiencing Homelessness Program?
The Youth Experiencing Homelessness Program (YEHP) within the Oregon Department of Human Services is responsible for coordinating statewide planning for delivery of services to youth experiencing homelessness. YEHP provides service and housing-based grants to local community organizations across Oregon to assist youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) in better navigating their homelessness experience.
What does this map show? What does it not show?
This is an overall representation of number of support services available to youth experiencing homelessness, via a YEHP Grant.
- Prevention - Street Outreach or Drop-In Day Center programming. Both focus on building relationships with YEH and providing immediate needs supports, connections with support agencies, assistance with locating safe and/or stable living arrangements, and preparing YEH for independence.
- Crisis Housing & Services - Commonly known as “Shelter”. Addresses the immediate needs of YEH by providing a temporary safe space to reside, as well as access to food, clothing, counseling, education reconnection, referrals for health care, and other services to encourage safe reunification, housing opportunities, and building life skills.
- Medium-Term Housing & Services - Provides approximately 18-21 months of site-based or scattered-site housing, and emphasizes case management supports to assist in the transition of YEH to self-sufficient living.
- Host Homes - A safe living environment offered by a local adult community member in a private home that provides temporary housing for at-risk youth on either a long- or short-term basis. Host homes are overseen by Grant Providers who deliver oversight of safety and programming, as well as support youth residing in the host homes.
- Miscellaneous - Grant Providers who are delivering Culturally-Specific, Mental Health, or Substance Abuse Supports as a standalone grant agreement. These grants are specific to youth experiencing homelessness.
The System Services layer shows how many support services are available in each county. Selecting a county will highlight the names of the grant provider and the support services they provide.
The All YEHP Grantees layer shows the locations where grant providers are delivering support services. Some deliver services in multiple counties within the same grant agreement. Selecting a grant provider will highlight the local address, as well as the support services they provide.
The Unique Grantees layer shows how many unique grant providers are delivering services in each county. Selecting a county will highlight the names of the grant providers and the support services they provide.
How many YEHP Grant Providers are there?
Beginning in July 2023, YEHP has grants with 61 grants with 42 providers. For more information, current YEHP Grant Providers can be found on the
YEHP Website under “Contracted service providers”.
