Description: The sidewalk inventory is used by staff, primarily in Transportation services and City Planning, in addition to consultants hired by the City for various purposes (e.g., infrastructure planning, safety studies, area specific studies, Transportation Master Plans). The Essential Links Capital Program utilizes this inventory in order to identify and prioritize implementation of sidewalks where they are missing.
The inventory was completed using the 2011 ortho imagery and overlaying that underneath the centreline road network as the base. Each line segment in the centreline shapfile has been assigned a code indicating the line segment's sidewalk condition.
Shorelines, geostatistical lines, planning boundaries and other line segments that are not physical roads were coded as "Not Applicable (other) – code 13". Other types of line segments where sidewalks are not applicable are expressways and laneways, roads on which the City does not build sidewalks. These two categories are also coded as "not applicable" but with code 9 for expressways and 10 for laneways.
