Description: This data set represents the regions for level 1, 2 and 3 of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) for 2013. The NUTS nomenclature is a hierarchical classification of statistical regions and subdivides the EU economic territory into regions of three different levels (NUTS 1, 2 and 3, respectively, moving from larger to smaller territorial units). NUTS 1 is the most aggregated level. The NUTS classification has been officially established through Regulation (EC) No 1059/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council and amendments. A non official NUTS-like classification has been defined for the EFTA countries and candidate countries. An introduction to the NUTS classification is available here: http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page/portal/nuts_nomenclature/introduction This data set has been created mainly from the EuroBoundary Map v 8.x(Eurogeographics), geographic information from TurkStat for Turkey, the Global Administrative Unit Layer from FAO (UN) for Macedonia and a list of communes per statistical region provided by the countries. Available scales are 1M, 3M, 10M, 20M, 60M). Here six scale ranges (100K, 1M, 3M, 10M and 20M, 60M) are available. Coverage is the economical territory of the EU, EFTA countries and candidate countries as in 2013. This data has been generalised from 100K scale and therfore may not be an accurate depiction of the NUTS regions.

Description: This data set should be bibliographically referred to as the "GISCO Airports 2013 dataset". It contains 3 feature classes with the location of over 11800 Pan European airports and heliports, plus one attribute table and 5 domain tables. The airports are identified using the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) airport codes. The dataset was first created as GISCO Airports 2006. It wasthenupdated in 2009 based on EuroRegionalMap (ERM) v3.0 from EuroGeographics. The GISCO Airports 2013 dataset hosts three related feature classes: -AIRP_PT_2014: All airports and some heliports are represented by point topology, consisting of 11687 features. The point coordinates and most of the attributes in this feature class are based on the Eurocontrol database, complemented with other sources for the EU territories not covered by Eurocontrol. There are a number of basic attributes for each airport, such as different identification codes, airport name, altitude, etc. The GISCO airports geodatabase was restructured and its attributes updated from the previous version, changing the structure of the geodatabase. Some of the differences are:-Added a new attribute called AIRP_GROUP (char 1) in AIRP_PT_2013 to flag to which group of countries belongs each airport.-Added a new field called AIRP_GETIS in AIRP_PT_2013 to flag GETIS DB airports.-Eliminated feature class TEN as it does not give any added value to the data delivered.Among the attributes included in the GISCO Airports 2013, one is especially relevant for the European Commission: "AIR_PASS" is an airport categorisation according to the regulation 437/2003 (statistical returns in respect of the carriage of passengers, freight and mail by air). All airports listed in the regulation have been included in GISCO Airports 2013. All these airports reported to Eurostat were used in 2010 by over 15000 passengers per year. Dataset coverage is geographical Europe plus territories administrated by European countries.
