Service Description: The Endangered Species Act (ESA) currently provides Federal protections for more than 1600 at-risk plant and animal species across the U.S. and its territories and addresses the threats these species face. The USGS provides existing, long-term information for many species being considered for, or currently under, ESA protections. This includes science to understand species’ threats and survival requirements, and help managers develop strategies to minimize threats and restore species to healthy levels.
