Description: The proposed_site feature class identifies the final recommended business location derived from spatial analysis and field survey. The selected site is located within the community of Saddle Ridge, which demonstrated the highest Muslim population and strong food spending potential in Calgary. The site was verified in the field to ensure accessibility, visibility, and proximity to key commercial areas. This dataset serves as the final output of the analysis process, combining multiple data layers including demographic enrichment, community restaurant spending, and existing business distributions.

Description: The burger_joint_field_points feature class was developed through field data collection using ArcGIS Field Maps. Each point represents a verified restaurant location recorded during on-site visits in the community of Saddle Ridge and surrounding areas. Attributes include restaurant name, address, city, province, postal code, restaurant type, burger availability, burger type, halal status, and other field-recorded details. This dataset provided firsthand confirmation of business operations and was used to compare field-verified results with existing open data layers to enhance the accuracy of the Mr. Burger project’s commercial analysis.

Description: The community_restaurant_spending feature class contains polygons representing Calgary communities enriched with economic and consumer behavior data from Esri’s Enrichment Service. Key attributes include 2025 Food Purchases from Restaurants and 2025 Food Purchases from Stores, both expressed in Canadian dollars. The dataset was symbolized using a graduated color scheme to visualize variations in restaurant spending across Calgary. This layer was used to determine that Saddle Ridge ranked 11th in food purchases from restaurants and 5th in purchases from stores, supporting its selection as an ideal proposed site when combined with Muslim population data and development status.

Description: The calgary_community_enrich_m_final feature class integrates demographic and spending data derived from Esri’s Enrichment Service. Each polygon represents a community within the City of Calgary. Key attributes include 2025 HHINC::Median CURR$ (median household income), 2025 Food Purchases from Restaurants, 2025 Food Purchases from Stores, and 2021 REL::Muslim (Census), which together provide insights into community-level income, food purchasing trends, and religious demographics. This dataset was used to determine the relationship between income level, food spending, and Muslim population distribution. The analysis supported the selection of Saddle Ridge as the optimal location for a new burger restaurant due to its high Muslim population (5,163 residents) and strong local food spending.

They are governed by provincial board orders and provincial reports prepared following the hearing and approval of petitions for annexation. The city limits are only changed as a result of a board order of the Municipal Government Board. This dataset is maintained by The City of Calgary and made available through the Calgary Open Data portal. It contains a single polygon feature representing the full city boundary and is intended for use as a foundational base map layer in GIS projects.Key details:• Date created: August 17, 2016• Last updated: December 1, 2025• Update frequency: Irregular• License: City of Calgary Open Data – Terms of Use (see Open Data portal)
