Directive 079 requires the abandoned well to be located and tested for gas migration leaks prior to development activities to ensure that the 5 meter setback from surface structures is maintained. When an abandoned well location is communicated back to the AER, which differs from the location reported under Directive 056, it will be included in the revised abandoned well dataset. The revised abandoned well locations are approximate and may be used for mapping purposes. Any attempts to re-locate abandoned wells should be completed by the licensee of record or a competent professional. The means by which the revised abandoned well locations were derived are different than those reported under Directive 056
