Description: The Public Land Survey System (PLSS) is the surveying method used historically over the largest fraction of the United States to survey and spatially identify land parcels before designation of eventual ownership, particularly for rural, wild or undeveloped land. It is sometimes referred to as the rectangular survey system (although non rectangular methods such as meandering can also be used)
Description: GADM is a spatial database of the location of the world's administrative areas (or adminstrative boundaries) for use in GIS and similar software. Administrative areas in this database are countries and lower level subdivisions such as provinces, departments, bibhag, bundeslander, daerah istimewa, fivondronana, krong, landsvæðun, opština, sous-préfectures, counties, and thana. GADM describes where these administrative areas are (the "spatial features"), and for each area it provides some attributes, such as the name and variant names.

Description: This layer was developed by the Fire Department to use in our annual reporting to the state. We must report total incidents by Urban,Suburban, and Rural. Using the State of California formula for urban,suburban was found to be not applicable to Los Angeles County. The state was using census tract to compute the USR and only using population. This worked for them as they had to look at the whole state by county. We used the following variables:
1. Total Population
2. Employment
3 Street miles
4. Housing
We then re-distributed the totals down to a one-mile grid. Then a scoring system for each variable was developed. One being a low, and ten 10 being the highest. We then totaled up the scores for each category. What we found was that we needed to ‘smooth’ the results to ensure a smooth transition from urban,suburban, and rural. We found that using ESRI’s Neighborhood model was a perfect tool to finalize our results. We documented our methodology and asked the Urban Research Division of Los Angeles County to independently analyze our results. With some minor tweaking the USR layer was approved and is now used for all our reporting.
Description: This dataset comes from the County’s Location Management System (LMS), which is a collaborative system to locations across the County. The full dataset contains over 73,000 locations, including 63,000 public (available for download below) and14,000 non-public locations (available for government entities only) with consistent attributes. Description: The Community Partners Program is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) and private, community-based providers (Partners) who are committed to providing quality health services in a culturally and linguistically appropriate environment to low income and uninsured communities. This program is part of a Medicaid Demonstration Project designed to provide DHS with federal fiscal relief to preserve vital community clinic capacity, to increase access to primary, dental, and specialty care services, and to develop Community Partners for the provision of these services. The mission of the Community Partners Program is to provide medical and dental services to the medically indigent in a way that is complementary to the DHS safety net system of care as that safety net currently exists and as it evolves in the future. The guiding principles are fairness in the system, quality of care, and efficiency. Through this innovative relationship between DHS and its partners, health care coverage is provided at almost 190 privately-operated primary care sites.

Description: This data was created on April 30, 2012 to represent known disposal sites in Los Angeles County that may produce and emanate methane gas. The shapefile contains disposal sites within Los Angeles County that once accepted degradable refuse material. Information used to create this data was extracted from a landfill survey performed by County Engineers (Major Waste System Map, 1973) as well as historical records from CalRecycle, Regional Water Quality Control Board, and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

UPDATED: 12/27/12 for the updated Santa Clarita Valley Area Plan going into effect. UPDATED: 9/5/13 to take out insignificant parcel portions (slivers and portions of parcels less than 100 sq. feet) as decided on at a Project Review meeting on 8/5/13 - Management and County Counsel present. SEA numbers in newly adopted Santa Clarita Valley Area Plan also taken out.
